“Indian Beauty” By Alexandra Penney
30 x 40 inches Edition of 10 Digital Pigment Print
Alexandra Penney is an artist who has made an international reputation blending contemporary digital technology with photographs and found objects. In this recent series, she manipulates vintage images of Indian Maharaja families, adding lavish jewels to create a provocative old/new juxtaposition. The result is stunning. Penney, who began her art career as an abstract painter, now utilizes new media to explore a range of subjects, from architecture and landscapes, to portraits and flowers. Her many group exhibitions and one-person shows have established her as a talent who develops unique techniques with broad appeal. Today, Alexandra Penney ‘s works are represented in major collections, including that of former Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Interior Designer Jamie Drake and other boldfaced names. As the noted first editor of Conde Nast’s Self Magazine, and a highly successful book author, she conceived and executed the Pink Ribbon campaign for breast cancer. Penney is a graduate of Smith College and received a Master of Arts from Hunter College and the University of Chicago, in Studio Art and Art Criticism.
